01About this project

This project includes developing the former City Centre Airport into a sustainable mixed use community. The scope of work encompasses overall community planning, preliminary and detailed engineering, infrastructure construction, and selling serviced land to builders. Blatchford will eventually be home to up to 30,000 Edmontonians who will live, work, and learn in this sustainable neighbourhood. Blatchford will be made up of 2 primarily residential spaces on the east and west sides of the site, a town centre, a large central park, a civic plaza and plenty of additional green space. Urban design principles are integrated into the neighbourhood to create a 'people-first' community that fosters sustainable lifestyle choices. In order to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions, a city-owned utility has been created to own and operate a District Energy Sharing System that provides environmentally-friendly heating, cooling and hot water to the buildings and homes. Update: West Stages 1, 2, 3 & 5 are complete or substantially constructed and builder activity is ongoing. West Stage 6 is nearing completion. West Stage 7 is under construction. East Stage 6A and West Stages 8 & 9 are included as part of the 2026 construction season but are experiencing weather-related delays. Market Stage 1 is anticipated to begin construction later in 2026 or early 2027.

02How to get on the bid list

Big projects are not usually tendered trade by trade in public. The owner hires a general contractor or construction manager, who then prequalifies trades and sends out packages. Getting on that list early is how you get the call.

  1. Find out who the general contractor or construction manager is.
  2. Prequalify on their trade-partner portal (insurance, safety record, references).
  3. Ask when the packages for your trade go out, and to be on the invite list.
