Yellowhead Trail is becoming a freeway with 3 lanes of free-flowing traffic in each direction. The Yellowhead Trail Freeway Conversion Program will be implemented through a combination of large and small projects that supports efficient delivery of each phase of planning, design and construction and minimizes impacts to road users, residents and businesses. This includes the removal of the existing signalized at-grade intersections at 127 Street, 124 Street, 121 Street and 107 Street. The project includes two new interchanges, parallel collector roads and a integrated active mode corridor. Update: St. Albert Trail to 127 Street: Manhole installation near 129 Street for the storm tunnel is anticipated to be completed in summer/fall 2026, while column and panel installation is scheduled to begin in late July 2026. Ongoing work includes replacing the noise attenuation wall, constructing the westbound service road, and building concrete traffic barriers for the future eastbound service road. 127 Street to 121 Street: The 127 Street bridge deck pour is complete. Following the transition of traffic onto the new bridge, the remaining retaining wall piles beneath the detour road are scheduled… Location: Yellowhead Trail - Mainline - St. Albert Trail to 97 Street

02How to get on the bid list

Big projects are not usually tendered trade by trade in public. The owner hires a general contractor or construction manager, who then prequalifies trades and sends out packages. Getting on that list early is how you get the call.

  1. Find out who the general contractor or construction manager is.
  2. Prequalify on their trade-partner portal (insurance, safety record, references).
  3. Ask when the packages for your trade go out, and to be on the invite list.
