01About this project
A new gate will be built in the downtown core on 97 Street between Jasper Avenue and 101A Avenue, where the original Edmonton Chinatown began. The new gate will replace the original version that was located on 102 Avenue. The original gate was dismantled and put into storage in 2017 to accommodate the construction of the Valley Line Southeast LRT. The final design of the new gate is complete. Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2026 and be completed in early 2027. Update: Work continues on the concrete base supporting the gate. 97 Street full road closure later this summer to erect the gate's steel frame. The north facing art panels are under development. Big projects are not usually tendered trade by trade in public. The owner hires a general contractor or construction manager, who then prequalifies trades and sends out packages. Getting on that list early is how you get the call.
